Hi everybody!

My name is Sandra K. Bea. I was born in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (D.R.C). In 2001, I moved in Denver, Colorado where I met my husband, Daniel who is also from the D.R.C. We have two beautiful children, Faida (5) and Jelani (18 months).

Although French is my first language, I am also fluent in 4 other languages: Swahili, Tshiluba, Lingala and Ki Kongo, dialects spoken in the D.R.C.
My passion from teaching comes from my mother who has been teaching and still teaches the Pre K for more than 30 years. After high school, I decided to follow her steps in becoming an elementary school teacher in a city called Mbuji Mayi, in the D.R.C., with classrooms averaging more than 50 students.
Three years ago, I decided to go back to school to get my degree (B.A) in Modern Languages, my minor in K-12 education and my Colorado Teaching License from Metropolitan State College of Denver (MSCD). I’m also a proud member of the American Association of Teachers of French (ATTF).
While attending MSCD evenings and weekends, I was working as the French Program Lead Teacher, supervising all French Program teachers and coordinating curriculum delivery with other Lead Teachers at the School at Colorado International School for 5 years where I taught the elementary and the middle school.

In May 2007 I conceptualized, planned and implemented, the Colorado International School MultiBee. The annual Colorado International School MultiBee is the world’s only multilingual (French, Spanish, Mandarin, Farsi, English) spelling bee for 1st-8th grade students. Students compete in their program languages and in English. This reinforces daily curriculum delivery, provides students with a safe and fun forum to compete academically, and promotes the school’s core character values.

When I’m not teaching, I devote my time running nonprofit organizations devoted in Education (especially in Africa, please visit my blog: http://merekam.wordpress.com). My husband and I enjoy meeting new people, making new friends, and traveling. We have so far visited: South Africa, France, Belgium, Germany and Netherland. We hope to visit next Mexico and Spain since our daughter; Faida is learning Spanish as her third language, after French and English.
